Between 1914 and 1919 competitive football in England was suspended. As a result of footballers signing up to fight in the Great War many teams were left depleted, and were forced to field guest players instead. The Football League and FA Cup competitions were suspended and in their place regional league competitions were set up. Players appearances in these various war-time tournaments do not count in official records.
