In defeating Bristol City by 2 goals to 0 West Ham adapted themselves better to the ground conditions, their on swinging passes being much more suitable to the torrential nature of the ground than the Bristol short passing game. In the first half the home team obtained both their goals the first by Bishop and the second from Bailey. In the second half Bristol City were more effective, their forwards copping well but the task of the home halves was made easier by the visitors persisting in the wing game

WEST HAM BOYS v. LIVERPOOL BOYS

English Schools Championship (Final)

This is part of a collection of material relating to the match and the career of the player J.W. Carruthers captain of the Liverpool Boys side which opposed West Ham Boys at Upton Park 14 May 1921. The collection also includes his match programme, Official Reception & Dinner Menu which was held for the finalists in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, West Ham on the evening of the match. His scrapbook contains newspaper cuttings of the match which reports "30,600 spectators the largest crowd assembled at West Ham" although the young Carruthers exaggerated the attendance on his scrapbook page to 35,000. The match was also attended by the Duke of York plus photographs of his trip to the Capital - what a delightful record of young players dream trip and success.
